Designed by Indianapolis-based artist Julie Xiao, Take Flight is a nature-inspired mural featuring peonies — Indiana’s state flower — and hummingbirds commonly seen throughout the Garfield Park neighborhood. Both symbols represent joy, luck, beauty, and perseverance. Nature has the power to lift spirits and reduce stress, and this mural was created to bring a moment of brightness to everyone who passes by. The mural is located at Tube Processing Corporation on East Street in the Garfield Park neighborhood
This mural was commissioned by Tube Processing Corporation and was a partnership between Xiao and local arts nonprofit Big Car Collaborative. The mural was painted with help from Ess McKee and Big Car staff.
