A Celebration of Bean Creek and Garfield Park

A Celebration of Bean Creek and Garfield Park, 2025 — The 5 acre campus of Contemporary Art Museum of Indianapolis/CAMi, Safeway, a large number of gifted visual artists, a strong network of active neighbors and the 153 acre Garfield Park make their home in the neighborhoods of Bean Creek and Garfield Park.

Safeway acts as a gateway to these neighborhoods. Big Car Collaborative, the Garfield Park Neighbors Association, and the Bean Creek Neighborhood Association joined forces with seven neighborhood artists to create mural designs that were then painted by neighbors. Inspired by the “exquisite corpse” technique, the mural celebrates the creativity, history, and neighborhood pride that unite the Garfield Park and Bean Creek communities.

Mural designs, left to right: India Hines ( Bean Creek), James Kelly (Garfield Park), Justin Cooper (Bean Creek), Julie Xiao (Big Car staff artist), Andrea Haydon (Garfield Park), Alejandra Carrillo (Bean Creek), Chris Tower (Garfield Park).

With support from the Garfield Park Neighbors Association, Bean Creek Neighborhood Association, Safeway, the Indy Arts Council, the City of Indianapolis, and the Allen Whitehill Clowes Charitable Foundation.
