Celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

January 16, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Join us as we celebrate the life and legacy of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. All events are free of charge and all community members are welcome to attend. Big Car will strive to celebrate Dr. King’s ideals and legacy through a day of activities, meaningful dialogue, and a homage to black artists.

Tindley Preparatory Academy students will be attending the event, the Tindley Preparatory Academy is an all-boys middle school designed to help young urban boys become successful scholars. The young visiting students have been asked to prepared ode poems with the theme “I Am.” All of the pieces shared will encompass their own self-image and how they feel about their cultural. The students will then host activities and a discussion on poets who helped lead the Civil Rights Movement such as writer Mari Evans, one of the founders of the Black Arts Movement and longtime Indianapolis resident – whom we are also currently commemorating in the Tube Factory artspace with an exhibit by Carl Pope.

We are excited to see all of you there!
