West Michigan Street Festival

On Saturday, October 1st from 11 am – 4 pm West Michigan Street will be transformed into a thriving, connected business and cultural corridor.
Near West neighbors and Great Places 2020, in partnership with Big Car Collaborative, have been working to create a new and improved community for all to enjoy!West Michigan Street Festival will provide the opportunity for neighbors and visitors to engage with one another – to share ideas –and to challenge ourselves and our community to develop this space into an area we can all enjoy. Free and open to the public—this is a chance to experience an historic community reignite its vision for what is possible in an underutilized commercial area.
From North Tremont Street to Triangle Park at North Holmes Avenue – West Michigan Street will be transformed!

During the festival there will Music performances by MOOR DUB (reggae), Mannish Boy (alternative rock), La Buena Onda (Latin alternative music/Cumbia), JT Sifuentes (bilingual pop), Andres Mares (spanish classical guitarist), and Eric Salazar and friends from Classical Music Indy (classic music performances)./

At the West Michigan Street Festival, Discover Near West Indys is excited to be presenting a family-friendly theatre production called “Folk Tales.” Made partially of bilingual artists, this group is focused on bringing free arts programs to the Near West Indianapolis neighborhoods of Haughville, Hawthorne, Stringtown, and We Care in an effort to enhance quality of life for the residents. Programs include visual arts workshops and theatre performances, as well as dance & music performances.

As part of the West Michigan Street Festival, the River West Alley Art Gallery will be featuring an art exhibition, featuring local artists Samuel Penaloza, Eric Whisler, Juan Gabriel Tiscareno, Andrea Ettinger, Ashley White and huge paper picado banner created by Hawthorne Community Center summer school students facilitated by Beatriz Artist aka Beatriz Vazquez.

During the West Michigan Street Festival,Indy Convergence, an international arts collaborative space opening soon in the Near West, will we featuring a Haitian art gallery with paintings, sculptures and textiles. Free Yoga classes will be offered throughout the day.
