Walking Wednesday-Market East Neighborhoods with Marjorie Kienle

September 5, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Free
Explore one of Indianapolis’ oldest neighborhoods and Downtown’s first historic district in the National Register of Historic Places with heritage steward Marjorie Kienle of Historic Urban Neighborhoods of Indianapolis (HUNI).

This is walking tour to learn how Market East: the Lockerbie Square, Mass Ave and Cole Noble neighborhoods rose from urban decay to the inviting places to live, work and play that they are today. Beginning at Lockerbie Marketplace, 333 N. Alabama and ending at the City Market, 222 E Market Street, participants learn how these neighborhoods changed from 1970s to what’s happening today.

Free and open to the public // All ages
MEET at Lockerbie Marketplace (the green space next to Needler’s Fresh Market). We don’t walk if the weather is terrible. Walks are free but bring some money if you’d like to stop for a snack or drink in the middle.

Brought to you by Spark Placemaking and Indianapolis City Market with support from Southwest Airlines and Project for Public Spaces through the Heart of the Community program.

About Kienle
Marjorie Kienle is a heritage steward and preservationist that has been living in Lockerbie Square since 1975. Growing up in a small historic neighborhood of Westerville, Ohio, Kienle became interested in historic preservation at a very young age. While living in several historic districts around the country, Kienle learned about restoration, its history, and found her place in the home restoration movement. After moving to Lockerbie, Kienle served as President of the Lockerbie Square Peoples Club, President of HUNI, and continues her advocacy efforts in both organizations as well as the Rethink 65/70 Coalition.
