SUMMARY:Curt Oren and Terror Pigeon
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Listen Hear for a special show bringing together old friends and new journeys. \nCurt Oren (Chicago) makes his triumphant return to Indianapolis in ordet to prove that love will conquer hate and that some saxophonists don’t have to breathe as often as others. \nhttp://curtoren.bandcamp.com/ \nTerror Pigeon is riding shotgun in Curty’s wagon of wonders and will bring his own secret-recipe lo-fi pop magic. Performing in True 4.2 Surround Sound\, TP will pummel you with bass and project videos on the ceiling so bring a pillow and blanket to the show and get cozy!!! \nhttp://terrorpigeon.us/ \nMichael Raintree was last seen at the sound workshop series at Listen Hear. He promises to serenade you with sweet martian harmonies and cosmic grooves. \nJohn Collins McCormick will definitely be wearing a tie\, and may even tell some jokes. His sets are always unpredictable and ear-expanding madness. \nTheon Jones and Rob Funkhouser will open up the show with a short excursion into the sounds of theoretical physics.

SUMMARY:Thrice: Katy Kuchler\, Jessica Kartawich\, Victoria Jenkins
DESCRIPTION:Artists Katy Kuchler\, Jessica Kartawich and Victoria Jenkins take over 1205 Cruft St. \nJessica Kartawich: Act II “With love”\, is a curation of gifts. “All of the items in this room hold value not in what they are\, but in the way they were given and received. I am someone who places a high value on sentimentality and relationships and that extends to the physical representations of those things. The items on the walls are a few of the things that I’ve made throughout my life and given to those I care about—the things they’ve found important enough to keep. The items in the reliquary are a sampling of those that I have received throughout my life. The things in this room are two ends of a relationship\, and a connection that holds them together. There’s something to be said for the sentimental notion of holding onto objects that someone you love gave you.”–Jessica Kartawich \nVictoria Jenkins: Act III “Exploration” is named after her love for going new places and experiencing new things. “The pieces in the show were taken while in new places the first time I went there. These are the images I took with fresh eyes and what you see is what spoke to me. Each piece is made using a different medium\, printing in induvial ways\, edited differently\, but displayed all together as a collective whole to showcase the entirety of who I am as an artist and how my work speaks to me.”–Victoria Jenkins

SUMMARY:Make Pepe Great Again Drawing Rally
DESCRIPTION:Create a positive Pepe The Frog as part of a community action event project that a group of middle schoolers are hosting at Tube.\n“Pepe is a cartoon frog created by Matt Furie in 2005. Pepe has\, for most of his life\, been completely innocent\, blessed with the particular brand of dignity conferred by implacable chill. He had a catchphrase (“Feels good man”)\, and\, in 2006\, a starring role (alongside his roommates Andy\, Brett\, and Landwolf) in Furie’s book Boy’s Club. Gradually\, he began to be appropriated by others on the internet\, and it was sometimes a little weird\, though generally harmless enough. \nBy the summer of 2015\, Furie had some complaints about Pepe’s repurposing. That July\, he told Vice’s Sean T. Collins that he liked some of what the internet had done with his creation\, but didn’t understand why Pepe was so often drawn hugging the mysterious Feels Guy\, and with brown lips and a blue shirt. Reasonable complaints. You should hear what my parents say about me. \nMore recently\, for reasons that really aren’t exceptionally clear\, Pepe was adopted as a kind of mascot by the alt-right. White supremacists\, anti-semites\, and others have made truly hateful cartoons in which Pepe says horrendous things (google “Pepe + [name of minority]” at your own risk)\, and the heretofore innocuous frog emoji has started appearing in some people’s Twitter handles as an indication of their hate-fueled politics. When Roger Stone and Eric Trump shared their Expendables/Deplorables mash-up meme\, Pepe got the coveted Schwarzenegger spot. Pepe has been declared a hate symbol by the Anti-Defamation League\, and the Hillary Clinton campaign devoted an entire webpage to unpacking his significance.” \nFurie’s publisher\, Fantagraphics\, released a statement addressing the situation. They are appalled\, citing the “significant emotional and financial harm” being done to Furie:\nHaving your creation appropriated without consent is never something an artist wants to suffer\, but having it done in the service of such repellent hatred—and thereby dragging your name into the conversation\, as well—makes it considerably more troubling. \nFantagraphics Books wants to state for the record that the one\, true Pepe the frog\, as created by the human being and artist Matt Furie\, is a peaceful cartoon amphibian who represents love\, acceptance\, and fun. Both creator and creation reject the nihilism fueling Pepe’s alt-right appropriators\, and all of us at Fantagraphics encourage you to help us reclaim Pepe as a symbol of positivity and togetherness\, and to stand by Matt Furie. \nWe encourage reporters and others citing Furie as the character’s creator to also note that he condemns these illegal representations of his character. Matt is available for interviews through Fantagraphics. We encourage fans and others who support Furie to block\, report\, and denounce the illegal uses of the character by individuals and groups pirating him to foment hatred.” \n—Ian Dreiblatt is the director of digital media at Melville House.

SUMMARY:“Logic Sunrise” by Carlson Garcia // “California: October 2016” by Jade Leetz
DESCRIPTION:“Logic Sunrise” by Carlson / Garcia – http://carlsongarcia.com/ \nThis exhibit is inspired on the simple beauty of observing color and shape interaction. Logic Sunrise appeals to the visual perceptual system of the viewers for a pleasant sense of surprise through changing surfaces of orchestrated lights. Using primary red\, green and blue LED pulses\, our work engages providing a visual experience to all ages. The sculptures installed on a gallery wall\, invite viewers to experience their own retinal interpretations of thousands of colors modulated algorithmically in the form of light. The designs are the result of a collaborative process engaged in a poetic exploration of shape. \nThe idea of “art as research” is a sentiment that we share by pushing experimentation in all aspects of our production: from the design of counter-intuitive shapes to the use of digital logic. \nCarlson Garcia is a collective effort by artists Maxwell Carlson and Esteban García Bravo to create a unique display of sculptures and assemblages. \nWe explore designs that evoke multiple retinal interpretations of space questioning constructs of shape and color perception. Our aesthetic is influenced on lyrical geometric abstraction and optic tendencies that occurred during the twentieth century\, while also incorporating new technologies for the design and manufacture of sculpture. \nJade Leetz -“California: October\, 2016”. – http://jadeleetz.format.com/ Selected work from a month long trip spent in Southern California\, all of which focuses on a theme of placement and nostalgia met with vignettes of traveling.

SUMMARY:Calvin Johnson as Selector Dub Narcotic
DESCRIPTION:Selector Dub Narcotic is the pseudonym of choice for Calvin Johnson when he is re-mixing records for the Dub Narcotic Disco Plate series\, or engaged in spinning records at a party or other literary functions. Drawing largely from a stack of 45 rpm phonograph records\, Selector Dub Narcotic is known to mix the genres dancehall\, soul\, punk\, garage\, R&B\, rock steady\, bubblegum and rockabilly with assorted curiosities of the current underground music scene. \nBased in Olympia\, Wash.\, Calvin Johnson‘s work in underground culture started as a teenage fan volunteering at the local community radio station\, KAOS-FM. He moved on to writing for fanzines\, organizing music and film events\, playing music in various ill-fated bands. Calvin established \, a locally oriented media outlet\, in 1982. In 1993 Calvin founded Dub Narcotic Studio in which he has documented the work of the Somehow Is and Never Was\, such as Mirah\, the Blow\, Versus\, Built to Spill\, Fitz of Depression\, Make-Up and Little Wings. It has also been the incubator of many Calvin experiments in collaboration and self-expression\, such as Beat Happening\, Halo Benders\, Dub Narcotic Sound System\, and Selector Dub Narcotic. The decade of the double zeroes saw Calvin Johnson set into the world\, acoustic guitar in hand\, as a solo artist of musical platitudes. Now that the one-zeroes have hit\, Calvin is busy preparing a new album for the new decade. \nJoin us at The Tube Factory March 3rd for a unique First Friday show Featuring  Calvins’ Selector Dub Narcotic with special guests \, Beat Debris and Skin Conditions. music starts at 7:30P

SUMMARY:Dr. Jeffrey Meldrum-Discovery Channel expert and Sasquatch author
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Jeffrey Meldrum\, an expert on foot morphology and locomotion in primates\, will give a talk\, answer questions and sign books. His appearance is in conjunction with Tube Factory’s Hairy Man exhibit. Meldrum contributed his field evidence\, including special hand and foot casts\, to the exhibit. Admission to the talk is $5 \nMeldrum is a Full Professor of Anatomy and Anthropology and a Professor of the Department of Anthropology at Idaho State University. He is also Adjunct Professor of Occupational and Physical Therapy. \nMeldrum received his B.S. in zoology specializing in vertebrate locomotion at Brigham Young University (BYU) in 1982\, his M.S. at BYU in 1984 and a Ph.D. in anatomical sciences\, with an emphasis in biological anthropology\, from Stony Brook University in 1989 (then referred to as State University of New York at Stony Brook). He held the position of postdoctoral visiting assistant professor at Duke University Medical Center from 1989 to 1991. Meldrum worked at Northwestern University’s Department of Cell\, Molecular and Structural Biology for a short while in 1993 before joining the faculty of Idaho State University where he currently teaches. \nMeldrum authored Sasquatch: Legend Meets Science which is the first book to be written by an academic and provides an objective look at the field. \nMeldrum has also published numerous academic papers ranging from vertebrate evolutionary morphology\, the emergence of bipedal locomotion in modern humans and Sasquatch (Bigfoot) and is a co-editor of a series of books on paleontology. Meldrum also coedited From Biped to Strider: The Emergence of Modern Human Walking with Charles E. Hilton. He edited the textbook From Biped to Strider (Springer\, 2004). \nMeldrum has attracted media attention due to his interest in Bigfoot. Skeptic Brian Dunning writes that “The work of responsible scientists like Dr. Meldrum is exactly what true skeptics should be asking the Bigfoot community for\, not criticizing him for it.”\nMeldrum was present at a 2011 conference in Siberia to discuss the Russian wildman. He acknowledged that the results of the Russian field trip to the cave site were most likely fraudulent. He suggested that the supposed evidence found was simply an attempt by local government officials to drum up publicity.\nMeldrum has also studied and commented upon issues of genetics and the Book of Mormon including his book Who Are the Children of Lehi? written with Trent D. Stephens. \nMade possible by the Efroymson Family Fund
