SUMMARY:The Designer's Road Map
DESCRIPTION:An honest panel discussion on the pathways for a creative professional\nThe Indianapolis creative community offers a variety of pathways to a career as a design professional. Some are straight\, most are windy and none of them are for the faint of heart. There is no singular experience because our community is made up of a tapestry of traditional ad agencies\, boutique design shops\, freelancers and in-house creative teams. And while we benefit from the array of options\, it can also isolate us to our own experience\, leaving us to make assumptions about what it must be like on the other side. Are all agency gigs 60+ hour workweeks? Do freelancers hang out at coffee shops all day and sip lattes? What is it like to work in-house? When does a side hustle become a business? And what the hell is a boutique design shop anyway? \nWhat if we had the opportunity to have a candid conversation with Indy’s most talented and gracious design leaders to get answers to some of these questions? What if we could dig into the similarities and differences between these pathways and how to know what to expect? More mentorship\, more honesty\, less romanticization\, fewer assumptions. \nPlease join AIGA at The Tube Factory on Oct. 24 for a guided panel discussion that will leave you better educated about your opportunities and more equipped to build the type of creative community that cares for one another. \n—- \nPANELIST\nRyan Hunley // Owner and Art Directory\, 2nd Street Creative \nAmy McAdams-Gonzales //Co-Founder and Designer\, Matinee Creative \nAaron Scamihorn // Principal\, RONLEWHORN Industries \nAnna Saraceno // Product Designer\, Trello \nKatie Clements // Associate Creative Director\, CVR \nMODERATOR\nKolby McElvain // Senior Designer\, High Alpha \nSpecial thanks to our Presenting Sponsor:\nArtisan is a boutique recruitment agency that has a unique approach to making the right connections – and they’ve honed\, mastered\, and put it to work over the past few decades. Their secret? It’s the realization that they’re humans helping humans.

SUMMARY:ROBBIE FULKS\, LINDA GAIL LEWIS & RED VOLKAERT
DESCRIPTION:Robbie Fulks is a singer\, recording artist\, instrumentalist\, composer\, and songwriter. His most recent release\, 2017’s Upland Stories\, earned year’s-best recognition from NPR and Rolling Stone among many others\, as well as two Grammy® nominations\, for folk album and American roots song (“Alabama At Night”). \nFulks was born in York\, Pennsylvania\, and grew up in a half-dozen small towns in southeast Pennsylvania\, the North Carolina Piedmont\, and the Blue Ridge area of Virginia. After 1980s stints playing with Greg Cahill’s Special Consensus Bluegrass Band and teaching at Chicago’s Old Town School of Folk Music\, Robbie worked as a staff songwriter on Music Row in Nashville (1993-1998). His early solo work includes the influential early “alternative-country” records Country Love Songs (1996) and South Mouth (1997). His music from the last several years hews mainly to acoustic instrumentation; it returns him in part to his earlier bluegrass days\, and extends the boundaries of that tradition with sparely orchestrated reflections on love\, the slings of time\, and the troubles of common people. \nRadio: multiple appearances on WSM’s “Grand Ole Opry\,” PRI’s “Whadd’ya Know” and “Prairie Home Companion\,” NPR’s “Fresh Air\,” “Mountain Stage\,” and “World Cafe.” TV: PBS’s Austin City Limits; NBC’s Today\, Late Night with Conan O’Brien\, Later with Carson Daly\, and 30 Rock. Artists who have covered his songs include Sam Bush\, Kelly Hogan\, Hiss Golden Messenger\, Andrew Bird\, Mollie O’Brien\, Rosie Flores\, John Cowan\, and Old 97s. Festivals he’s played include Hardly Strictly Bluegrass\, Calgary Folk Festival\, Bumbershoot\, Birmingham City Stages\, IBMA\, Walnut Valley Festival (Winfield KS)\, Wakarusa (Lawrence KS)\, Americanafest (Nashville)\, Hideout Block Party\, Milwaukee’s Summerfest\, Taste of Chicago\, Rhode Island Rhythm and Roots\, Whispering Beard\, and Pickathon.

SUMMARY:Josh Card w/ The Cold Hearts
DESCRIPTION:Josh Card was raised in a small “one stoplight” town in Northeast Florida\, where everybody knows your name\, the County Fair is the best time of year\, and simpler ways of living still exist. His small town beginnings and humble Southern upbringing landed him at age 13 holding a guitar that his Grandmother bought him\, sitting on the porch of the house his Grandfather built\, at the end of a dirt road\, trying to play along with her Conway Twitty albums. The rebellion stage soon followed\, and driven by teen angst and a thirst for loud music\, Josh spent the next 15 years playing in several successful punk and hardcore acts\, touring internationally and releasing several albums.
