SUMMARY:Street Painting Workshop with Peter Gibson
DESCRIPTION:Street Painting Workshop Saturday\, June 11\, 12:00-5:00pm \nLocal artists are invited to take part in this hands-on learning experience. International street artist Peter Gibson will share insights into his creative process and techniques for pavement painting.  \nPlease register for this event. \n\n______________ \n\nPlaces For People- Southeast Side Roadway Series. \nScheming for a more vibrant and inclusive community \nTube Factory Artspace 1125 Cruft Street\, Indianapolis In 46203 \nThe Southeast Side of Indianapolis is first and foremost a neighborhood and a community of people.  However\, when we look at the roadways\, much of the infrastructure is oriented towards prioritizing car commuters.Residents\, pedestrians\, and cyclists seem largely excluded from the equation. What does it look like to imagine our roadways as something more? How can we include places for people to exist and thrive alongside our neighborhood thoroughfares? Capitalizing on the momentum of previous successful placemaking initiatives\, we will look for solutions to these questions and more. \nThis series is presented as part of Big Car Collaborative’s placemaking initiative with Reconnecting to our Waterways. By using methods gleaned from Spark: Monument Circle and the Rethinking Our Streets project with DPW in Mapleton-Fall Creek\, we will be envisioning and enacting positive steps toward a more vibrant and inclusive community. Come out to engage other artist\, residents\, and thinkers in some forward-thinking possibilities for the Southeast Side at this Places For People Southeast Side Roadway Series. \nCheck out bigcar.org for details on these other events from Places For People – Southeast Side Roadway Series: \nSoutheast Side Roadway Workshop: Thursday\, June 2\, 6:00-8:00pm \nThis workshop will take place in anticipation of the arrival of international artist Peter Gibson (roadsworth.com) to Indianapolis. We will engage the following topics and opportunities for Southeast communities: \n\nRoadway art on Pleasant Run\n\nCreating visual interest to reclaim public space\nLocating target areas\nIntroduction to the work of Peter Gibson (roadsworth.com)\n\n\nReclaiming Shelby Street \n\nHow do we make Shelby Street more pedestrian friendly?\nHow do we address traffic volume/speed concerns?\n\n\nWalkability and Bikability Signage\n\nIdentifying pedestrian friendly assets\nImproving awareness of assets \nMapping wayfinding sign locations\n\n\nCreate Places For People Neighborhood Initiative \n\nIdentify bike/walkability goals for the Southeast side\nDevelop a plan for engaging residents\n\n\n\n“Roadsworth” Peter Gibson Artist Lunch Talk- Friday\, June 10\, 12:00pm \nGibson will give a lunchtime presentation of his work at the Tube Factory Artspace on Friday\, June 10 at 12:00pm and will discuss his process and intentions for the street painting workshop that will be held the following day. SUMMARY:White River Snow Stomp
DESCRIPTION:ALL DETAILS ARE TENTATIVE DEPENDING ON SNOWFALL \nFor up to date official information\, visit the Snow Stompers’ facebook page! \nIt’s looking like there may be snow on the ground tomorrow! Details from White River Artist\, Lisa Elliot: \nIf Snow\, then…\npark and meet at Westside Bait & Tackle Store along White River Parkway between New York St. and Michigan St. We will gather Sunday\, January 10th\, at 2:00 and finish around 4:00. Late joiners are welcome.\nBring your own boots! We will be stamping out designs in the snow. Each of us will start at a lamppost and make our own tracks flow southeast as the river flows. Each person should take their own path to show how the water flows meandering down the bank. Whirlpools and eddies may dot the land. Be creative!\nA word of caution…the riverbank has a steep incline and it should be considered a rigorous hike. So\, be careful!\nWe look forward to seeing other Hoosiers who love to play in the snow and celebrate our city. Let’s hope that this can be the first of many snow stomps.

Let’s explore! \nIn conjunction with Spark Monument Circle\, the White River Festival\, and Reconnecting to Our Waterways\, Big Car Collaborative invites you to stoke your imagination and trek with us through the heart of downtown Indianapolis circa 1915. Together\, we will hunt for the historical path Pogue’s Run once carved\, meandering to the White River. \nAll adventurers will arrive at 6:30 p.m. to the Spark Welcome Trailer on the east side of Monument Circle for an brief\, fun and informative historical overview of George Pogue (c.1763–1821)\, Indy’s humble beginnings\, and the story of Pogue’s Run. \nA 90-minute walk will lead explorers along the historical banks of Pogue’s Run as previously charted by Pittsburgh based artist Sean Derry. SUMMARY:The Long Blue Line: Discussion with Artist Sean Derry
DESCRIPTION:Pogue’s Run Waterway once flowed through the heart of Indianapolis and was a prominent visual landmark in the communities through which it meandered. It has since vanished from our landscape into aqueducts beneath the city. \nIn his project “Charting Pogue’s Run\,” artist Sean Derry set out to memorialize our native waterway with a long\, blue line and iron markers mapping the stream’s 1831 path. Join us at Flat 12 Bierworks for a casual presentation and discussion with Derry\, who will share his perspective of Pogue’s Run and the experience of completing a massive installation. \nFlat 12 Bierwerks is located on the banks of Pogues Run waterway. Admission is free\, with food and drinks available for purchase. \nThis event is part of the White River Festival and is presented by Big Car and Reconnecting to Our Waterways. \nYou are invited to join us the following day for The Pogue’s Run Pursuit as we hike the historical route of Pogue’s Run. \n\n\nRethink Reconnect Reclaim – Creative Placemaking Series (Fall\, 2015) \nThis event takes place as part of Rethink Reconnect Reclaim – Creative Placemaking Series (Fall\, 2015)\nLet’s identify what it looks like to take control of our environments and spur forward-thinking artistic exploration for the greater good of our communities and our waterways.
