SUMMARY:Paddlit -- Part of the In Light In Festival
DESCRIPTION:Selected to be part of the In Light In festival that celebrates the 100th anniversary of Central Indiana Community Foundation\, Big Car lights up the paddle boats that\, using human power to chug through the canal. The Paddlit (paddle it) project involves the people on the boats working as paddlers — maybe better called petalers — who’ll be able to alter the cadence of waterproof LED lights glowing on and off colorfully just above the water. In this way\, everybody who rents a paddle boat is a collaborator and performer.

SUMMARY:The Pogue's Run Pursuit
DESCRIPTION:Who was George Pogue and what happened to him? Where did the Pogue’s Run waterway go? Let’s explore! \nIn conjunction with Spark Monument Circle\, the White River Festival\, and Reconnecting to Our Waterways\, Big Car Collaborative invites you to stoke your imagination and trek with us through the heart of downtown Indianapolis circa 1915. Together\, we will hunt for the historical path Pogue’s Run once carved\, meandering to the White River. \nAll adventurers will arrive at 6:30 p.m. to the Spark Welcome Trailer on the east side of Monument Circle for an brief\, fun and informative historical overview of George Pogue (c.1763–1821)\, Indy’s humble beginnings\, and the story of Pogue’s Run. \nA 90-minute walk will lead explorers along the historical banks of Pogue’s Run as previously charted by Pittsburgh based artist Sean Derry. Explorers will navigate old-timey maps along our modern city thoroughfares while pondering what life was like for residents along the White River tributary in centuries past. Explore the mysterious disappearance of George Pogue\, and the similar disappearance of the waterway bearing his name. Take an opportunity to purchase provisions during our journey. \nYou will ultimately walk away with: \n\nA broader understanding of the network of waterways Indy was built upon.\nA connected experience to Indy’s historical origins.\nConsideration for what must go into the responsible creation of a sustainable urban environment.\n\nParticipants are encouraged to dress in c. 1915 period appropriate clothing\, so don your parasols\, feathered hats\, suspenders\, bowler hats\, and canes. All ages are welcome! Strollers are welcome! This event is free and open to the public. \n*Join us the night prior for The Long Blue Line: Discussion with Artist Sean Derry at Flat 12 Bierworks. SUMMARY:The Long Blue Line: Discussion with Artist Sean Derry
DESCRIPTION:Pogue’s Run Waterway once flowed through the heart of Indianapolis and was a prominent visual landmark in the communities through which it meandered. It has since vanished from our landscape into aqueducts beneath the city. \nIn his project “Charting Pogue’s Run\,” artist Sean Derry set out to memorialize our native waterway with a long\, blue line and iron markers mapping the stream’s 1831 path. Join us at Flat 12 Bierworks for a casual presentation and discussion with Derry\, who will share his perspective of Pogue’s Run and the experience of completing a massive installation. \nFlat 12 Bierwerks is located on the banks of Pogues Run waterway. Admission is free\, with food and drinks available for purchase. \nThis event is part of the White River Festival and is presented by Big Car and Reconnecting to Our Waterways. \nYou are invited to join us the following day for The Pogue’s Run Pursuit as we hike the historical route of Pogue’s Run. \n\n\nRethink Reconnect Reclaim – Creative Placemaking Series (Fall\, 2015) \nThis event takes place as part of Rethink Reconnect Reclaim – Creative Placemaking Series (Fall\, 2015)\nLet’s identify what it looks like to take control of our environments and spur forward-thinking artistic exploration for the greater good of our communities and our waterways.
