Big pigeons in business suits throwing bread at businesspeople. Ribbons cascading from a hotel entrance awning. A sound and light machine beaming from an alley. Big Car artists fulfilling more than 150 wishes at our As You Wish table. It all added up to Art in Odd Places (AiOP), produced in downtown Indianapolis, Oct. 17-18, 2014. Twenty-seven artists presented projects for 2,500 excited residents and visitors, animating public space and injecting creative surprises into the cityscape.
Art in Odd Places was founded in New York by Ed Woodham. The concept had been implemented in Australia, North Carolina and other sites before its first midwest incarnation in Indianapolis. The event was initiated by Big Car and produced in partnership with the Arts Council of Indianapolis, Classical Music Indy, and Indianapolis Museum of Art with the support of Delta Faucet, Apparatus, Downtown Indy, Indy Mod Homes, KA+A, Hilton Garden Inn, Nuvo Newsweekly, Indy Hub, and Sun King Brewing.
